Riding in the winter - the benefits

Many people hate the cold, hate the bad weather and hate the idea of having to go outside in winter. This means quite a lot of people decide to quit riding during the winter.

Here is a list of 10 reasons why you shouldn't:

1. Come the spring you will have to spend a significant amount of time building back everything you have learnt.

2. If you keep riding during the winter it will help maintain all the strength and toning you have worked hard for.

3. Horses have to eat, drink, have shelter, be shod all year around. Your lesson fee covers all of the essential costs of the horses being here.

4. One of the fun positives of riding in the winter, no flies! And you don't overheat.

5. Continuing to ride over winter is great practice for when you own your own horse (if thats the aim) you can't just stop owning that horse in the winter.

6. If you are concerned about the cold, you can layer up.

7. Here at Quarry Farm we have Mavros the mechanical horse. So if the weather is bad you can ride him inside.

8. You don't need to be concerned about it getting darker earlier in winter, we have lights in our arena to make sure you can keep riding! Other riding schools will as well.

9. You will feel like you've gone backwards once the spring hits.

10. The horses will always need exercise, it keeps them fit and healthy! It is much more fun for you and the horse if you come and have a lesson rather than the horse just being turned out (they do of course still get this as well)
